Best Coffee Shops in Rhode Island

The best coffee shops in RI, based on my personal experience, are the Coffee Exchange in Providence, the Coffee Depot in Warren, and any given Starbucks. The Coffee Exchange is located on Wickenden Street in Providence, RI. It is a small coffee shop that I found upon searching for a new place to study towards the end of my high school career. This venue provides the typical drink variety, including Chai, Matcha Latte, Dirty Chai, and London Fog ("Menu"). The seating arrangements are quite pleasant as well since there are seats along the walls as well two primary lounge areas. The two primary lounge areas consist of a room to the right side of the main floor as well as an upstairs seating area. There is not a great deal of space in between the tables but this makes the Coffee Exchange unique since it brings a closeness vibe. Another perk of the Coffee Exchange on Wickenden is that it is right next to the highway; also, it is situated among several other small shops and restaurants. Take, for example, the Caspian - Breakfast and Lunch. This additional small venue has been "serving locally crafted brunch and Mediterranean cuisine since 2018" (Caspian). Overall, I'd highly recommend stopping by the Coffee Exchange on Wickenden Street. Furthermore, the Coffee Depot is located in Warren, RI. Warren is relatively far from Providence regarding traveling around Rhode Island, but both of these coffee shops are located in the state of RI. The layout of this distinguished coffee shop is much different than the Coffee Exchange as it is much larger in size. There is a lot of space inside of this roadside cafe but unlike the Coffee Exchange, the Coffee Depot is only one floor. There is plenty of room inside to roam and eventually find a table to sit. The Coffee Depot also offers goods for sale such as small handbags and seasonal items. Pastries are also sold here; one time, I tried the quiche. Some of the drinks identified on the menu at the Coffee Depot are coffee, espresso, tea, and specialty drinks. I usually order from the "Specialty" section of the broad menu. For example, among this list, there is matcha, chai, iced tea, and nitro cold brew. The Coffee Depot also has a train sort of ambiance as the logo for this coffee shop is the front of a train. One of my favorite parts of this cafe is the elevated seating by the window. Customers can sip their drinks while looking out of the large glass windows at Main Street. Another cafe that I mentioned previously in this blog is Tracy's Cream and Sugar. This cafe is much younger than the Coffee Depot and still seems to be developing (Generative AI, 2025). Unlike the Coffee Depot, Tracy's Cream and Sugar is empowered by the company called DoorDash which indicates that Tracy's is a brand that endorsees "on-the-go" beverage choices or at-home comforts. Furthermore, Tracy's Cream and Sugar is gay-friendly which makes this roadside cafe stand out in being open to members of the LGBT community (Generative AI, 2025).
